Newcastle United signed Jacob Murphy from Norwich City last summer, with the Magpies paying just over £10m to bring the winger to the Premier League.

It would be fair to say that Murphy initially struggled to make his mark as he looked to step up from Championship football to the top tier.

There have been plenty of positive signs from the former England Under-21 international in recent weeks, however, particularly at the weekend when he grabbed his first Magpies goal.

Indeed, the 22-year-old, who is valued at £6.3m by transfermarkt.co.uk, showed speed and a calm head to lift the ball over Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson during the Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon.

The goal did not mean anything in terms of points as Newcastle lost 3-1, but it was extremely important for Murphy to get off the mark for his new club.

Capable of operating in a number of positions in the final third, Murphy will now be looking to bring consistency into his game over the next few months.
